To get a driver’s license in Poland, you need to prepare for it. It is best to start training and pass the exam before buying a car, as sometimes we do not pass the exam from the first time and the time it takes to obtain a document authorizing you to drive a car is extended.
The minimum costs of the course start from PLN 3,000.
What affects the cost of a driver’s license?
- Category – the most popular type of driver’s license is issued with the opening of category B – the right to drive cars weighing up to 3.5 tons. However, if you need a different class or classes, the driver’s license may cost more.
- Administrative costs, candidate driver’s profile (Profile Kandydata na Kierowcę). Creating this profile is mandatory and free, but it is necessary to have a current photo. It usually costs 20-40 zlotys, but you can save money by using relatively new digital photos or using a dedicated mobile app.
- Training costs – the price depends not only on the category, but also on the offer of a particular school.
- Additional materials or courses – some prospective drivers may need additional time for practical training or materials for theoretical training. This is an additional cost of up to 100 zlotys per hour.
- Location – the final cost of a driver’s license largely depends on where you live, as there are significant differences between different regions and cities in the country.
- The cost of the driver’s license exam – you pay for the theoretical and practical parts. In addition, if the theoretical part is not passed, you will not be able to proceed to the practical part; if you do not pass the practical driving test, then each subsequent exam is paid.
- Number of attempts to pass the exam – the least capable have up to 10 attempts.
- Fee for issuing the document
- Fee for a medical examination – medical examinations can be performed by authorized doctors. Most driving schools cooperate with specific doctors, which not only simplifies the process, but is also cheaper. The usual cost of a medical examination and the issuance of a certificate is about PLN 200.
Training costs are one of the largest costs in the entire process of preparing future drivers. Driving school courses cost an average of PLN 3,000. You can save about PLN 200 if you teach yourself the theory and only attend practical lessons at a driving school.
Driver’s license exam prices 2023
On January 1, 2023, changes came into force in the Road Traffic Act and the Act on Drivers. In particular, we introduced new tariffs for future driver’s exams. The theoretical exam for all driver’s license categories now costs PLN 50 (previously PLN 30), while the practical exam costs from PLN 200 to PLN 250, depending on the category (last year it was PLN 140).
- Theoretical – PLN 50;
- Practical:
- PLN 200 for opening category AM, A1, A2, A, B1, B, C1, D1 or T (permission to drive a tram);
- PLN 250 for opening category B+E, C1+E, C, C+E, D, D+E or D1+E.
After passing the exam, the last fee is to present the driver’s license. It costs PLN 100.50 regardless of location or other factors.
